HFI Desktop Support Tool
What is this report about?
This report describes the definition of a prototype software tool that will support the conduct of HFI.
What problem does the report address?
Managing HFI can be difficult for a number of reasons. These include a lack of coherent information,
poor training, dispersed data sources, and difficulty in finding support. The support tool will provide a
method to address all of these issues.
What is the benefit of this work?
The support tool will provide a single, unified resource for the conduct and management of HFI.
This work in particular lays the groundwork and establishes the existence of useful existing software.
Who should take note of it?
Anyone in a position of HFI responsibility - HFI focus in IPTs, HF practitioners developing and
working to Human Factors Integration Plans (HFIPs).
What is the report's status?
The report is at Issue 1 and will not be further amended.
What are the main issues addressed in the report?
The issues addressed in this research programme were:
- Existence of HFI support software
- Requirements for a support tool
- Structure for a support tool
What are the findings?
The main conclusions were:
- Very little previous applicable software.
- Design would need to be accessible and flexible.
What is recommended?
Development of a suite of software tools to provide a single HFI management resource.
Why bother?
Management of HFI is currently difficult because of the dispersed nature of information sources.
A unified approach will encourage the conduct of HFI and integrate it with other disciplines.
