Dr John Huddlestone
Dr John Huddlestone PhD, MSc, BEd, CITP, is a Senior Research Officer in the Human Factors Department at Cranfield University. He is the Director of the Defence Human Factors Group and the Project Manager for the Flight Operations Research Centre of Excellence (FORCE). His principle research and teaching interests lie in the areas of flight simulation and training, and cognitive task analysis. He is heavily involved in the application of human factors techniques in the defence environment and is a member of the training sub-committee of the Inter-service Industry Training Simulation and Education Conference (IITSEC).
Prior to joining the university, John was a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force. Working in the training branch, his particular specialities were training development and software engineering. During two successive tours on operational flying squadrons, he led the design of aircrew training courses for the L1011 TriStar and delivered technical ground school training on the Puma Helicopter Operational Conversion Flight. He also conducted a research programme into the effectiveness of multi-player, low-fidelity simulation for Tornado F3 air combat training. This study included a transfer of training trial from the simulator to the airborne environment conducted during live training. John is an experienced software project manager with expertise ranging from e-learning development to the specification and procurement of information management systems. He has designed and delivered a wide range of software engineering courses up to postgraduate diploma level.
