Birmingham University
Established over 100 years ago, The University of Birmingham is one of the 'Russell League'
Universities and amongst the top Universities in the UK.
The Department of Electronic, Electrical and Computing Engineering (EECE) at The University of Birmingham has been awarded a grade 5 in the Research Assessment Exercise, performed on behalf of the UK Government. This means that EECE is recognised as a research centre that is performing at an 'Internationally-leading' level and has a good profile around the world. Over the past 5 years, EECE has been awarded some £10million in research support. The main areas of research activity in EECE are communications, signal processing, emerging devices and human-centred systems.
For the Human Factors Integration Defence Technology Centre, the main driver will be the human-centred systems research activity, but expertise in these other groups will be drawn upon (particularly in relation to communications and signal processing). These other groups are involved in a separate DTC that addresses sensors.
